Rep sneakers customs fees depend on one thing at our store: which warehouse your pair ships from.
If the model is in our US warehouse, the parcel never crosses a border. It ships domestically, arrives like any other domestic package, and no duty exists because no import happens. If it ships from overseas, it enters under the current rules and any charge assessed is yours. We ship DDU, so the shipping price at checkout covers transport and nothing else. Rep sneakers customs fees, when they apply, are billed separately by the carrier.
That is the short version. Below is why the rules changed, what a customs bill is built from, how to read one, and what we do when a parcel gets stuck.
What happened to the $800 rule
American shoppers used to have de minimis working in their favour. Under 19 U.S.C. 1321, any shipment worth $800 or less entered the country duty-free and without formal entry paperwork.
It started at $1 in 1938, on the logic that collecting pennies cost more than it raised. Congress lifted it to $200, then to $800 in 2016 through the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act. Cross-border shopping grew into the space that opened up. By fiscal year 2024, more than 1.36 billion parcels a year were arriving that way.
It came apart over roughly fifteen months:
- May 2, 2025. Executive Order 14256 removes de minimis for goods originating in China and Hong Kong.
- July 4, 2025. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act sets a statutory end date of July 1, 2027.
- August 29, 2025. Executive Order 14324 extends the suspension to every other country.
- February 20, 2026. After the Supreme Court ruling on IEEPA tariffs, Executive Order 14388 keeps the suspension running.
- May 2, 2026. The T86 clearance channel closes.
- June 24, 2026. CBP makes the suspension indefinite by federal regulation for non-postal commercial shipments.
- July 24, 2026. Low-value mail shipments move to a new entry process requiring 10-digit HTSUS codes, a continuous bond, and a monthly International Mail Duty Worksheet.
The shipping side took the worst of it. At least 88 national postal operators stopped accepting US-bound parcels at some point during the transition because they could not build duty collection systems fast enough. Japan Post was offline for eight months and resumed in April 2026 running pre-paid duties.
If you follow trade news and are waiting for this to reverse: the suspension is not tied to tariff levels. Lower tariffs would not restore de minimis on their own, and the statute already sets a permanent end date. CBP publishes current guidance at cbp.gov.
What rep sneakers customs fees are made of
A customs bill is not one percentage applied to what you paid. It gets assembled from separate pieces, each calculated on a different basis.
Declared value. The starting figure. Whether shipping cost is included depends on the terms used.
Tariff classification. Every product entering the US gets a 10-digit code from the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Footwear is one of the more finely divided sections of that schedule. The rate attached to a code turns on details that sound trivial: what the upper is made of, what the outsole is made of, whether the shoe covers the ankle, and the value per pair. Two boxes that look identical on a shelf can sit on different lines.
Additional duties. Depending on country of origin, a shipment may carry Section 301, Section 232, or IEEPA duties stacked on the base rate.
Carrier fees. UPS, FedEx and DHL generally pay CBP at the border, then invoice you. They add a brokerage or disbursement charge for having advanced the money and filed the entry. That fee belongs to the carrier, not the government, and it appears on the same invoice, which is why the total tends to surprise people more than the duty itself does.
Because classification drives the outcome, nobody can quote you an exact figure before a shipment is classified. Any site giving you a single flat percentage for all footwear is estimating.
How to read a customs invoice
The paperwork is not designed for consumers, and the line items are easy to misread. A typical courier invoice separates into three groups.
Duty is the government charge, calculated from the HTS code. This is the only line that goes to CBP.
Taxes and fees may include the Merchandise Processing Fee and, on some entries, Harbor Maintenance Fee. Small amounts, but they appear as separate lines and get mistaken for carrier charges.
Brokerage, disbursement, advancement, or clearance fees belong to the carrier. Names vary by company. If your invoice total feels disproportionate to the value of the shoes, this group is usually why.
Check the declared value line first. If it does not match what you paid, the classification behind it is probably wrong too, and both are worth disputing together rather than separately.
Customs duty is not sales tax
These get conflated constantly and they are unrelated.
Sales tax is charged by your state on the purchase itself. It appears at checkout, it is collected by the seller, and it has nothing to do with borders.
Customs duty is a federal charge on goods entering the country. It is assessed after the sale, calculated on the declared value, and billed by whoever handles the import entry.
A domestic order can carry sales tax and no duty. An international order can carry duty and no sales tax. Seeing one does not tell you anything about the other, and neither figure predicts your rep sneakers customs fees.
Orders from our US warehouse
Our USA stock sits in a warehouse inside the country. Those orders ship domestically. No customs entry, no duty, no brokerage fee, and no invoice landing three weeks after the shoes did.
Stock rotates. Models move in and out depending on what we bring over and what sells, so the category page is the only accurate picture at any given moment. If you want a specific pair and need to know whether it is available domestically, message us on WhatsApp or by email before ordering and we will check it against current inventory.
Pricing does not change either way. US stock carries no premium.

Domestic tracked shipping. No customs entry, no duty, no brokerage fee.
Orders shipping from overseas
Rep sneakers customs fees only come into play on shipments leaving our overseas warehouse. Everything outside the US warehouse ships internationally under DDU terms. Duty, if assessed, is billed to you rather than collected by us at checkout.
We are direct about this because the alternative is worse. Building an estimated duty into the shipping price means overcharging the majority to cover the minority who get billed, and the estimate still would not match what the carrier eventually assesses.
Here is what our own numbers look like since the rules changed. We have shipped roughly 6,000 orders. Around 1% have been held or seized.
When it happens, we resend the item free of charge. You send us the tracking number showing the parcel was held, and a replacement ships. No restocking fee, no partial credit, no argument about fault.
If a parcel gets held
Most people asking about rep sneakers customs fees are really asking what happens when a parcel stops moving. Tracking that has not updated in four days is usually nothing. Two weeks is worth a message.
Most holds are paperwork rather than enforcement. An incomplete declaration, a missing code, a value that does not line up with the invoice. These clear on their own or with a single document.
If a formal notice arrives from CBP, read what it actually asks for. A request for information is not a seizure notice, and responding to one as though it were the other costs time you may not have.
If an invoice looks wrong, dispute it with the carrier rather than CBP. Misclassification is the most common error and it is correctable. The carrier filed the entry, so the carrier is where the correction starts.
And message us. WhatsApp or email, whichever you use, and someone picks it up. We would rather hear about a stuck parcel on day ten than on day forty.
Returns, refunds and duty already paid
If you paid duty on a parcel and then return the item, the duty does not come back automatically. It is a separate claim from the refund on the goods.
CBP has a mechanism called drawback for recovering duty on re-exported merchandise, but it is built for commercial volumes and the paperwork rarely makes sense for a single pair of shoes.
The practical version: our refund covers what you paid us. Duty and carrier fees sit with the carrier and CBP, and recovering them means going through the carrier’s own claims process. Worth knowing before you order internationally rather than after.
How long delivery takes
Processing runs 3 to 4 business days. Shipping is generally 5 to 9 days to the door after that, barring problems.
Before you order
Two things decide whether rep sneakers customs fees apply to your order, and both take a minute to check.
Look at whether the model you want is in USA stock. If it is, the customs question does not apply to your order at all.
If it is not, and you want it anyway, order knowing that a duty invoice may follow and that we cover the parcel if it gets held. Most of our Jordan models and N1KE silhouettes ship internationally, and roughly 99 in 100 arrive without a customs event.
Questions we get
Do I pay customs on a US warehouse order?
No. Those ship domestically and never pass through an import entry.
Who pays rep sneakers customs fees, you or us?
On overseas orders, you do. We ship DDU. On US warehouse orders nobody pays, because there is no import entry.
Is the $800 exemption coming back?
Nothing currently in motion suggests it. CBP made the suspension indefinite by regulation in June 2026 and the statutory repeal is set for July 1, 2027.
How much are rep sneakers customs fees on a single pair from overseas?
It depends on tariff classification, which depends on how the shoe is built and what it is declared at. We are not going to invent a number.
What happens if my package is seized?
Send us the tracking number showing the hold and a replacement ships free of charge.
Why did DHL bill me after the shoes already arrived?
Carriers commonly pay CBP at the border and invoice afterwards. A gap of days or weeks between delivery and invoice is normal.
Can you declare a lower value so I pay less?
No. Undervaluing a shipment is customs fraud and the entry carries the buyer’s name, not ours.
Is customs duty the same as sales tax?
No. Sales tax is a state charge on the purchase. Duty is a federal charge on goods entering the country. They are calculated separately and can appear independently of each other.
How long can customs hold a parcel?
No fixed limit. Document requests usually clear in days. Anything requiring a corrected entry takes longer.
Do I get my duty back if I return the shoes?
Not through us. Our refund covers what you paid us. Duty recovery runs through the carrier’s claims process.
Does this only affect sneakers?
No. The suspension covers every category from every country of origin, at any value.
